What Being In Business Means To You

Monday, April 16th, 2012

Sometimes it feels like you are at the end of your rope. There is certainly nothing wrong at all with just setting it aside and returning to it at some point in the future. Next, when you are relaxed, go within and try to look at your daily thinking patterns. Try to develop the habit of knowing your own thought processes and what comes up in your day. You may be surprised to see how much less than positive thoughts you entertain every single day. We are suggesting that these habits of thinking are making an adverse impact on your present level of success. You can greatly benefit from a solid and reliable self improvement strategy.

A lot of times we arrive at a point at which we do not know what to do, and that is the time to think about getting help. On the other hand, sometimes it is not so easy to do this, and we understand some people experience that. But perhaps you could try talking to a friend. Or, perhaps you have some good friends who do business on the net, and you feel you can talk to them. Or, you could look for a professional counselor who specializes in working with business people. Using professional assistance is actually a big investment out of my ultrasound technician salary but it’s a big help in our family business now.

It is a part of human nature to only want to see the things as we really would like them to be. Sometimes we just have to bite the bullet and accept the reality of a certain situation and this could cause you to become discouraged or frustrated. But there are jewels waiting for us even in such times, as well. One main attribute a business owner must foster for success is his or her objectivity. The way we analyze and assess all business situations stem from our willingness to see things for the way they truly exist. Thousands of thoughts flicker through our minds all the time. Start paying attention to what your thoughts are and you will be able to see everything more clearly. It’s our opinion that when someone is spending their time wishful thinking, they know exactly what they are doing. Subjective thinking won’t benefit your business, so make it a habit to eliminate it from your thought processes. Even my close friends who are working as part time tutors from different ultrasound technician schools in Georgia are now dealing with this kind of problems in their businesses.

In the event you begin outsourcing, then that means you have achieved a certain level of success which is terrific. However, be aware of the type of manager you are, and you do want to stay away from being over-bearing or interfering. All we would like to recommend is for you to note whether or not this is something you normally with anyone else. We know you do not want to do anything that will potentially be negative for your business. You will never overcome or modify something that hurts your business until you realize it and accept it. You will benefit greatly if you can come to an understanding as to why you should be less controlling. This is a situation that can be improved, but it will take a lot of courage on your part to let go a little. Continuously improving myself is basically a must for me since I am the right hand of my family’s small business right now as well as working full-time as ultrasound technician in my Auntie’s medical facility.

It’s good business strategy to study self-improvement techniques and identify the areas in which you can improve because, not only will you be a better person, but your business will prosper. Also, it is important and interesting to note that very many business owners avoid doing it. There are exceptions, though, and we believe the high achievers actively work on improving themselves because they know their businesses will improve if they do it.

What you need to do

The fast moving world that we reside in now is making everyone think that everything can be done in a moment. Why Achieving Goals Is Frustrating

Tuesday, March 20th, 2012

Goals are frustrating. They appear to be so straightforward when you say them. It’s when you attempt to reach them that you seem to stumble into an enormous trap full of details that shout for your attention and problems that push themselves in front of you as if challenging you to get past them. Because of this attack, your goal weakens and you must deal with the painful truth either that you’ll never reach it or that doing so will take massively more commitment than you had hoped.

Let me give you an example. Suppose that you have this goal:

I am going to open a new company supplying a coffee service to local offices.

There you have it. One sentence. Easy.

What will you need to do to attain this goal? Well, you’ll need to buy some coffee machines and some supplies, then start calling companies. You might not get enough business or sign up enough buyers to make a profit, but the goal is simple.

Actually?

We’ll take another look.

You are going to offer coffee. What kinds? Regular? Bold? Decaf? Flavored? What flavors? Are you going to offer hot chocolate? Fat free as well as regular? What about tea? Regular? Herbal? Oriental? And which because there are so many? What about powered soups? What flavors? Dried noodle bowls? Which ones? Will you include packaged snacks such as chips or chocolate bars? Okay, which brands? Sizes? Flavors? You’ll need to offer sweetener. Sugar? Synthetic? Diabetic? How about creamers? Liquid? Powdered? Non-dairy? Reduced fat?

If your head is spinning, we’ve just begun. All of these details relate to the service itself, but there are others that handle starting the service. For example, you’re going to require a business license. Will you incorporate? Do you need an office? A warehouse? Office equipment? Shelving? Software? Contracts with suppliers? Contracts with customers? Delivery schedules? A website? Do you need financing? A loan? An investor? Will you advertise? Where? Who will design the ads?

And for all these details, every one presents two issues.

First, many of them need you to decide. Take packaged snacks. Will you supply them? You could, but will you? More critical, how will you make this and all of the other decisions in a way that’s best for you , your customers, and your company without resorting to tossing a coin?

The second problem is where do you start? Imagine that it’s now the first day and you are sitting at your desk, full of energy and excitement at the vision of your goal. What do you do first? Research providers? Incorporate? Reserve a web site name? Begin to write a business proposal? Research the competition? Where do you start and what do you do next?

Now, I am not attempting to deter you. I’m not advocating that you abandon your goal and fall back into your present job, but wouldn’t it be great if there were some proven way to address these details? Some effective process to tame them and to build a day-by-day plan to take you from now to your goal.

Well, there is. It’s called “project management,” and it’s now available for personal goals.

Jolyon Hallows is the creator of The Systematic Goal, a system for setting, planning, and achieving goals. He is a seasoned project manager, author of two books on project management, an instructor in a university diploma program, and has personally trained over a thousand project managers world-wide.
