Is It Time For A Vacation?

September 9th, 2010

May be you have felt that your life is one big roller coaster ride in which, whichever way you turn the ride gets faster and faster.

Your boss maybe demanding asking more and more from you, your partner may complain of you being workaholic and have no time for her or your children, your elderly mother may be relying on you to keep her company and manage her affairs as she had a fall recently. At the end of the day it’s all so overwhelming and you are unsure about what to do, who to turn to or how to relieve the stress and get some peace back in your life

After teaching yoga to concerned and stressed out students, I’ve observed that the majority of individuals are so concerned over meeting the demands of others, that they live life on overdrive.

Odds are that if you can identify with even one of the five symptoms we will discuss here, you’re probably already overstressed, worried and taking on too much emotional baggage.

These are some ways to know it’s time for a vacation. You’ve always got aches, pains, and headaches. You simply can not focus while working and end up putting in overtime. You bring the work back to your house and having feelings of resentment about the effect it has on the relationships that you’ve got. Most of the times, you are exhausted and worn out. It takes two times the amount of time to get out of bed, put your feet on the floor and start your day. It seems like your reason for being is gone. You may become snappy and ratty with your family and at work you become moody and irritable with your colleagues. Your heart rate is greater than usual. You may find that you frequently have held your breath unknowingly and caused an increase your blood pressure.

If this sounds familiar to you, what can you do to calm the overwhelming worry that keeps running through your head. What may one do to lessen the stress and continual demands that are being put on you? What can one do to manage and lessen stress?

Take a vacation and relax.

All of us require rest, relaxation and some peace of mind. How long ago was it that you took time off, or a holiday? A vacation can sometimes be stressful, especially if have to juggle the demands of your wife and children.

Nevertheless, some days apart from the typical everyday routine does a lot to recharge and replenish your energy. While you’re on vacation, try to take in as much fresh air as you can, go on lots of walks, eat right and drink plenty of water. Use the location to lie down, go to sleep earlier, read a book, do crossword puzzles, or any activity which gets your mind off the problems back home. Getting away for a few days can provide a new perspective, and even though the problem will still be waiting for you at home, the time away can help you figure out how to manage your troubles.

Continually being exposed to stress and not relaxing and resting may result in irreparable health issues, such as high blood pressure, failed relationships, diabetes, etc., and lack of energy are typical effects of being overworked and stressed.

Book a short vacation for a few days if you need to relax because life is getting you down, are overworked, worried or tired and low. Take a break from your routine and normal surroundings, to cheer yourself up and get new energy.

Significance Of Funeral Flowers

September 9th, 2010

What are the reasons to give flowers in funeral? What is the biggest reason to give flowers funeral flowers? These are the questions most children will ask you when they are growing up. I did not know how to answer those question, how do you answer that? I replied back saying the flowers are to honour the death of the person. The colour and the brightness of the flowers play a big part in the tribute.

Flowers can help bring the smile back on anyone’s face. There will be a lot of people disheartened in the funeral that is one way of cheering them up. Flowers can also represent your appreciation to the person who passed away. Sometimes we don’t know how to express our feelings towards the family who are feeling down hence we take help of flowers to express our feelings in a positive way.

There are flowers with different meanings for different occassions these days. There are birthday flowers, wedding flowers, symphathy flowers and funeral flowers. Almost all florists have white flowers collection for funeral bouquets. Wedding and birthday flower bouquets are made of colourful flowers. Because of the reasons above people have started using colourful flowers to give away in the funerals.

These days you will be able to get custom made flowers for these relevant reasons. Just give the family what they will like and appreciate, it can just be white or even colourful flowers, no matter what the colour they will know you gave it with good heart. White flowers are known for sympathy and peace but colourful flowers can be used for the same reason. Both sets of flowers can be used to show your feelings towards the family (of the person who died).

Even if you are not able to attend a funeral because of being in a different country you can always buy flowers online and get it delivered in the funeral. Its the thought that counts if you cannot be there.

Answers to your singing questions

September 9th, 2010

How should I sing?

You should choose a singing method that works for you. You can find singers and teachers who are quick to recommend their method, claiming, “It’s the best.” A good method is one that can teach you the basics of singing such as breathing management and articulation.

My voice doesn’t work, did I do something wrong? What do I do?

Your voice might stop working for many different reasons, and they can all be fixed. Thinking too much about how you sound as you sing can make you nervous and you may not sound your best. Not getting enough sleep can cause your voice to feel sluggish and not respond as easily as it normally does. Your voice will feel tired if you’ve spent too much time singing the day before. Your signing muscles are very similar to the other muscles in your body. The muscles need to be worked out, but they also need their rest. Emotions can have their affect on your voice as well. Crying can make the cords swell and feel puffy, too.

Do fat people have bigger voices?

Nope. Your voice has nothing to do with the size of your waist. If this were true, then large people would be natural singers by default. Actually, having extra weight around the middle makes it harder to move your body and to breathe. If moving like this is second nature to you, then you have nothing to worry about. To be honest, the size of your head and throat make a larger impact.

My voice is really scratchy, do I have nodes?

You need to put your vocal cords through a lot of abuse to get nodes. You won’t get nodes by yelling for a day. Naturally they would swell, but it would take much more abuse to give them nodes. Nodes are basically like calluses. If you don’t abuse the cords, the problem will not exist. If the scratchy sounds continue, try vocalizing high in your range. Nodes will for the most part only affect the high part of your voice. If the sound is husky only in the middle part of your voice, you probably have another kind of swelling other than nodes.

What’s the difference between a singing coach, voice teacher, and an accompanist?

The coach is a person that can play the piano and will give you good advice on singing. A coach will teach you many different things, such as a singing style that works for you, and finding places to breathe in the song. A coach gives you the basic, and compliments your voice teacher.

A pianist or accompanist is someone who plays the piano for you to practice singing but doesn’t offer advice. An accompanist is not cheaper than a coach though.

The voice teacher is the most important and will show you your technique. Although the coach may have knowledge of technique, the voice teacher should be the pro and expert. While the voice teacher may not be a great pianist, they do have a great amount of knowledge. For any voice session, you will probably spend half of it on technique, and half on repertoire.
