Others pick up the drug or alcohol habit out of curiosity or peer pressure. For most, what started out as curiosity, results in a devastating, downhill spiral that could ruin their lives, if left untreated. This article will offer addiction information and some advice on how to deal with this problem.
Drugs don’t necessarily have to be illegal substances to lead to addiction. Alcohol, pain pills or muscle relaxants can easily be swiped from a parent’s or friend’s home. After using a prescription drug or alcohol several times, it can be hard to give up that feeling of euphoria. When the “free” supply runs dry, these substances can be purchased illegally on the street, or through a friend, without much difficulty. Withdrawal symptoms can force the user to seek out the substance at any cost.
There are many reasons why a person will turn to drugs when in trouble, because of the way it makes them feel and because of the addictive qualities. When the person feels stress or anxiety, turning to drugs is the most likely answer because of the inability to say no or resist the temptation. For a person to break the cycle of drug addiction, in most cases the intervention and assistance of a professional drug treatment center is the only way to accomplish the goal of permanent sobriety.
Those who aid in addiction are considered enablers. Providing money for alcohol or drugs so that you don’t have to witness horrible withdrawal symptoms can keep the addiction alive. Helping with household chores or cleaning up after a person while intoxicated can also enable the addict. Often, people will avoid public embarrassment by trying to cover up and make excuses for an alcoholic or the drug abuser.
To break the habit of biting your nails you can get creative, you could create a reward jar, labeled for a short term goal, like a new pair of jeans or boots or a game, whatever you are wanting within the near future; Then every morning before you leave your home you would deposit ten .00 bills into your private funding jar, at the end of the day if you haven’t bitten any nails you get to keep the .00. But of course if you have bitten your nails then you would pull out .00 for every nail that you did bite.
It is not going to be easy to break the habit of biting your nails, but remember you can do this. Stay focused on your long term goal and list your reasons why to break this habit, if you can’t stop thinking about biting your nails, start a diary to get thoughts out.
